Breaking News: Israeli Airstrikes on Gaza Schools Kill at Least 25 People
In a devastating series of events in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes targeted two schools in the western part of Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 people. The schools, which had been serving as evacuation centers for displaced families, were struck simultaneously, leading to a chaotic and tragic scene.
Hany Mahmoud from Al Jazeera reported and provided a detailed account of the incident.
“These schools had become overcrowded shelters for refugees from various parts of Gaza,” Mahmoud said. “The strikes hit without prior warning, causing massive casualties among those who had sought refuge there.”
The two schools, one private and one public, were filled with displaced families from northern Gaza and Gaza City. The schools were hit by multiple airstrikes, turning what were considered safe havens into sites of horror and bloodshed. The Al Baptist Hospital, the only operational hospital in central Gaza, has been overwhelmed with casualties, with 25 dead bodies already transported there.
The Israeli military justified the attacks by claiming that Hamas was using the schools as command centers to carry out operations against Israeli forces. However, no evidence has been provided to support these claims. This is a familiar assertion from the Israeli military, which has repeatedly accused Hamas of using civilian infrastructure for military purposes without offering proof.
The strikes on these schools come less than 24 hours after another school in the Inwan District of northern Gaza was bombed, killing at least 17 people. This pattern of targeting evacuation centers has caused further internal displacement and increased fear among the already traumatized population.
The Israeli military has previously stated that they provide warnings before such attacks, but eyewitnesses and journalists on the ground dispute this. The continuous airstrikes and the targeting of places of refuge have left many Palestinians feeling that nowhere is safe.
Amidst this ongoing conflict, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate. The Al Baptist Hospital, struggling with limited capacity and resources, has been described by some medical staff as more of a morgue than a hospital due to the high number of fatalities and the lack of adequate medical care.
As the conflict rages on, the international community remains concerned about the escalating violence and the heavy toll on civilians. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with no immediate end in sight to the suffering of its people.
